5. I escaped California 3 years ago to move to Texas. It has been Great. Love Texas. My normal fixed power bill is less expensive than my outrageous PG&E bills I use to get in California. A gallon of milk is $1.69 and a dozen eggs is $1.69 @ Aldi's. Gas is $2.00 a gallon. Texas will fix this problem and I hope these people paying outrageous power bills will switch their provider to a fixed rate instead of a variable rate. Just an FYI I am in shorts and t shirt today. That was a freak cold front.

12. Texans wanted this, so they got what they wanted. Price gouging in most states is against the law. It should be in Texas as well. Texans should file a class action lawsuit against the power companies.
    A quick check on Texas law looks like price gouging is indeed illegal in Texas. And if the definition is correct it looks like the power companies are in violation of the law.

21. Why should utility customers pay for extraordinary power costs but the utilities should not be liable for damages from grossly negligent planning for cold weather? The fact is that despite several cold snaps and one huge power failure 10 years ago that caused FERC to issue a report with warnings to winterize power supplies, utilities took the same variable liability choice that is causing consumers $thousands in power bills. Stop price gouging and pay your damages bills Oncor, American Electric Power Texas, Austin Energy, Entergy, CenterPoint Energy and the rest of the utilities that short sheeted your customers. Instead of holding the utilities liable for their lack of winterized assets, now the Gov., Lt. Gov. and Fox want to fraudulently blame the utility-caused negligent homicides on Democrats and wind turbines.

The utilities must pay for the record-breaking damages, insurance claims and emergency relief costs because the utilities failed to winterize as recommended by FERC and the state’s best practices rules 10 years ago. This is directly analogous to the PG&E liability litigated for fire damages caused by windblown shorts of overhead transmission lines after a history of incidents.
