6. Whether you like it or not, these men and women in the Confederacy were all Americans at one time or another. That's why we call it the "Civil War," because it was a war against ourselves. There is nothing civil about war that's for damn sure, but it was and still is an integral part of our history that shall never be forgotten, for fear of it being repeated. If we keep telling ourselves that America is inherently racist and there is little to nothing we can do to stop it, as the MSM and some politicians suggest, we will never again be united. Not united in our love for democracy, not united in our love for freedom, not united in our condemnation of hatred and violence, and certainly not united in our contempt for racism. We will never be the United States of America.

16. If we take down statues and rename places, then we are rewriting history and wouldn't be able to learn from them. The statues show people the atrocity we had to go through to gain our independence and rights from tyranny. They are there to remind us never to do that behavior again. The young people are not being taught the true history of our country and the statues give info for us to remember what really happened. It saddens me to think we are losing our real history. Think about this: why were the statues erected and places named in the first place? It was to honour and show how strong our country is against the people we fought against for our rights and freedoms.
    The Civil War statues are to let people know that we will not forget the people that fought for the Union to bring our country back together. They also show us behavior we should not repeat again. Statues allow people to read the plaques and think about the actions of the historical people and places and not make the same mistakes.

31. I'm sorry but how do Confederate names evoke a "history of Winning, Victory and Freedom"? The Confederates lost a war trying to stop black people from having freedom.

32. I am considered a northern Yankee, so the confederate army or its hero's do not really mean anything to me. However, our civil war had brother against brother, families were divided on which side to fight for. Many lives were lost. Black people fought on the union and also on the confederate side. These people should not be forgotten.
