  38. Pandemic Profiteering is not limited to private citizens doing this. This morning I received a posting from my city that is in the same classification as this. Here it is.

    NOTICE- As a result of the most recently issued Executive Order (EO #2020-42), the Governor has determined that lawncare service workers are NOT CONSIDERED critical infrastructure workers who are necessary to sustain or protect life as defined.

    The City still retains the position that property maintenance for the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences are critically important, however we are not in a legal position to overrule Executive Orders established by the Governor who has stated that Executive Order 2020-42 does not include lawncare services rendered by contractors or any outside person other than a person(s) at their own residence until at least May 1, 2020.

    We will continue to monitor the situation for any changes to the Executive Order that may occur and encourage you to take necessary steps to ensure your residence is properly maintained for safety and sanitation purposes.

    This is very clear what is meant. The governor given an executive order that clearly states that law care is not an eventual service. In this order, she has also closed all yard care sales. This includes mower repairs shops and sales. The cities posting clearly states that only the residence(s) of each house are allowed to do this work. Therefore, you cannot get a neighbor to help. Many residents do not own lawn mowers and now cannot get one. They have been getting the work done by services. Many people need the spring tune up, service, or even parts that cannot be bought. They implied that they city would be watching for, “Safety and sanitation purposes.” This is in the form of code enforcement officers cursing and placing bright orange building department notices on the front doors. If not corrected in a couple days the grass will be cut by a contract lawn cutting service. The bill is passed to as separate office where it is a cash only process.

    So we have we have code enforcement that has been deemed as a critical service roaming the city, street by street. Placing warnings on the doors of the residents. We have private lawn care services contracted to the city cutting peoples lawns including entering enclosed yard spaces. The bill can only be paid by entering city hall turning right at the clerk’s counter, entering a private office of the comptroller, and paying in cash. The city hall is closed during all of this. If the bill is not paid in a certain number of days, it is applied to the tax bill. Our billing cycle is coming up. The tax bill on line takes a credit card. They use a private service for the credit card that charges a thick percentage for using your card.

    Of additional importance in this problem. This department looks for things like chipped paint. This is considered critical needs. If you have paint that is chipped another fine. More of the same process. They have hundreds of things like this that must be done as if it is an emergency. No discussions.

    To demonstrate this they made this posting on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 8:00 AM. The legal posting for these notices are the city hall and the library, both the same building and both closed for the duration.

    I cannot see this as some sort of scam or profiteering in a crisis. The post includes a link to governor’s Executive Orders and mentions lawn car as being non essential. That cannot be any clearer. It mentions that all including the handicapped and elderly are responsible to do these things. It implies that all work has to be done during the Executive Order including to lawn care, but not limited to just that. What can we do?

You want your vitamin D3 levels to be normalized before you're exposed to a disease.
