As more and more children use social media, Dr. Laura Berman and her husband Sam are demanding social media companies allow parental apps to monitor children’s online activity. They lost their son, who died after he purchased drugs while using Snapchat. Although not completely against the use of social media, the family wants companies to work with third parties to allow parents to have more control.

I’m sorry about the loss of this child, however more monitoring is not really a solution. As the video says, young people will simply migrate to other platforms. Making monitoring software more accessible will only make domestic violence perpetrators more capable of monitoring their victims. Whatever positives would come from this proposed change would be quickly offset by the negatives. Adolescence is marked by risk-taking behaviors. Parents should be aware that an authoritarian parenting style is not ideal. Mutual respect is what makes authoritative parenting so beneficial; being an invasive caregiver fails to open up lines of communication and trust that may have allowed this young person to feel more comfortable asking his parents for advice, rather than just participating in risky decision making.
Would a parent let their child wander the streets of a city unaccompanied? So why would they ever let them go on social media unaccompanied?

I am going to say sorry for your loss but your child should never had had a phone I was 19 years old and I got my first phone and I'm 27 years old I never had no social medias until I was 19 parents should be doing this no kids should have a phone till they moved out or the graduated
It's 100% the parents fault for their sons death, they should've taught him what illegal drugs can have effect on the body.
