  1. Ali would have won the award without the chair – saw Oklahoma! last night and she was a standout among a very talented cast. She won the award on her talent and commitment, disability notwithstanding. I’m excited to see the future of theatre that includes people who may have felt excluded due to their differences – think of all the talent out there waiting for their shot.

  2. Ive seen so many kids denied roles in highschool theatre and regular community and college theatre denied roles because of disabilities and for a broadway star in a wheelchair to win is a HUGE thing. The reason why her disability is being highlighted is because there is still so bany barriers up in theatre for actors and actresses with diabilities, the theatre itself is a very active performance art especially musical theatre so they tend to gloss over those who live with disabilities even of they have immense talent. This shows that you can do anything you want, its inspiring and it gives hope to so many and i dont think people understand that.

  3. Good for her, but what's hollyweirds attachment to firsts? Who cares if she's the first, acknowledge her accomplishments instead of making her look like a common diversity hire on

  4. I hope this award is a genuine thing and not some token thing and then this actress will like in 5 years disappear like a lot of them have.

  5. Here's what's so funny she's just in a wheelchair. It's not like she is brain-dead or anything like that. People in wheelchairs can do things! So shocked when somebody wins a reward? There's nothing wrong with her brain. The ones that are shocked on her getting the reward are actually the ones that are putting her down by being so shocked about it. It is as if they thought she couldn't do it or something. Liberals are put down artists and don't know it.
They pretend to support but are always shocked by blacks success and in this case a supposedly disabled person. You work hard, you get rewards in life, it's that simple.
