30. It's important that African-American citizens serve their Jury duties…when summoned. Most attempt to get out of serving. We see the ratio of African-Americans on this jury (1:11). I'm sure more were summoned.
    You never know how your voice in a case would mean the difference between justice & injustice for an innocent person.

I wish that judge would’ve allowed that man his outburst —if all he could do to express what some might have the shortsightedness to call a victory, is cry out in relief and vindication—a shout that marks the end of quibbling over the trivial bullshit adding insult to eternal injury…the loss of his child, he should be allowed that outburst. They showed him no humanity…he wasn’t given the chance to be human as they’d have surely showed leniency toward an Anglo whose son was taken in the same way—even if by his own. His whole family would’ve been allowed that outburst. They dehumanized the family—rather a bunch of animals aimlessly waiting for the system to give them something benevolent unexpectedly. How should they be the least bit unsure about the vindication of their son? They hardly if ever referred to his family by their names
