On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at approximately 3:01 am, an auto vs. pedestrian crash occurred in the 24th District in the intersection of Lehigh Ave. and Emerald St, resulting in a fatality. The preliminary investigation revealed that Unit #1 a black SUV was traveling west on the 1900 block of Lehigh Ave. After disregarding a steady red signal, the victim, a 33-year-old male, was attempting to cross the street in the designated cross walk when the SUV struck the victim dragging him several hundred feet on the 1900 block of Lehigh Ave. The suspect then fled the scene of the accident and was last seen west on Lehigh Ave at a high rate of speed. Medic #8 pronounced the victim at 3:12 am.
