I’ve repaired more Honda power antennas than I can count. Each one of them is a little different. They all seem to present their own challenges. In this video I cover just about every contingency when repairing one of these units.
I can’t stress enough how it may be best to go for a cheap whip antenna replacement. It can save you a lot of time and headache. If you have your heart set on a working power antenna in your Honda, this video should help.

Thank you so much dude! Screw the haters… side note: you clarified so many things for me. I just spent 25$ on a replacement antenna and motor form the junk yard and two hours later to still have one antenna that is broken and one that I completely disassembled. It’s funny tho because of the corrosion I didn’t even know about the metal tube inside after all that I didn’t even get the correct diagnosis (oh unless you count that this is a pain in the ass)… and of course I found your video after the fact. You really cleared it up for me, thanks.
Nice job. I had to drill out the shaft (in vehicle) very carefully, with a 5/16" – 13/32" bit. Finally got that stubborn little sleeve out of there. Looks like there's a broken piece that won't let the new teeth engage. Am now debating pulling the motor out or putting the fixed type in. Since I have the new mast and the motor works, I'll probably peel the fender liner back and go that route . . . maybe not.

Evidently he is not talking about the 86 – 89 Honda accords… you cannot just replace that roof monstrosity with a whip antenna.
Sir excellent video – im in chicago. I had a local dealer change my antenna mask since my antenna broke in the car wash. But when it goes DOWN after closing the engine it gets stick and makes tons of noises. Even with a brand new antenna. It wont go down flush.. i dont know how to fix that. The power antenna is trying to go down and become flush but it stops 1 inch prior and makes a tons of mechniacal noise tryin to pull it down.. help?

After going to three different stores, Home Depot, AutoZone and Harbor Freight, I got a kit for under $10 at Harbor and used the easy out tool and the metal sleeve came out! Thanks. It's working like a charm now. Also, anyone else thinking of replacing the mast, don't get it from eBay! I did that even after hearing someone on YouTube saying don't buy a cheap eBay mast, he was right, it would not work and I had to ship it back for a loss of $3.50. We ordered the mast that was an official Acura part and it went right in. The metal sleeve was the hardest part.

Would WD40 be a good silicon lubricant to use periodically for cleaning of the mast?
Thanks for this video! Just removed an s2000 antenna back to working OEM power on my Integra Type R. A nice simple mod if one wants a fixed antenna. Now mine grows tall and proud.
I have a 2003 bentley with the same problem the motor works however it won't retract the antenna which one will be the best replacement for that car?

Nice video, I have a question for you and I would really appreciate to hear from you. I dont mind that my Hondas antenna lifting mechanism wont work, but I do get bad radio signal, so I decided to take a look if theres a bad connection or something. And if the fault is in the bad connection I guess ill just buy new antenna, but not the one raising one. So heres the question- is it better to remove the whole lifting mechanism and try to wire new antenna without it or do I just remove the old antenna and put the regular one instead? The noise that comes from the motor wont cause me any trouble. With love from Latvia 🙂

mine is a Honda Civic, 96. the antenna is working but it is not going up ànd down smoothly, like it's kind of making a bad sound when it does go up and down.

I am doing a restoration on a 92 honda accord wagon. And like you mentioned on this video. The previous owner put the rubber dukie antenna which I hate with a passion. Lol. Being that you have a few antennas in your parts department. I was wondering if you had one for the wagon in good working condition? And of course willing to sell it?

BUT…what if your antenna goes up and down, but it simply won't retract all the way back down unless you put pressure on it as it is on it's way down…

Hello Eric, I have a 2001 LS in great condition and the only problem with is that the antena makes noises and stops for a split second a couple of times as it comes down. At the end it always stops short of going all the way down, can you tell me what might be causing the problem?

Power antennas are for lazy people who always use the drive through. Wish my Del Sol had the manual antenna.

FROM recent experience. if the power suddenly stops it is probably the clock fuse under the hood.
You'll figure out why it blew, but not as important to know as knowing it is that red fuse under hood (black box is on the passenger side).
Alternatively, (if you were still set on keeping your retractable antenna) couldn't just buy a whole new antenna kit (motor assembly, mast, etc.) take out the old one and replace it with a new one?

Excellent step-by-step instructions. I used your video to help me install a new retractable antenna on my 1995 Acura Integra, which had been stuck mid-way for several years, but the motor works fine. I came across a few unforeseen glitches, but revisited your video, executed, and now it works perfectly. If I'm ever in your town I will use you as my mechanic.

Hey Eric any chance you can show the inside of one of the extra antenna motors you have? On the gear side the contacts need to be lined up a certain way when the mast is down. I made the booboo of taking those gears apart one day haha.

This makes absolutely no sense at all–the rambling on without explaining what he's doing makes it impossible to watch. Just tell us the steps to change out the antenna mast! None of us has a box full of used assemblies sitting around like you do. So it's IRRELEVANT to even show this–which parts are needed and where can you buy them? If they aren't available then say so! Then I'll just chuck the whole thing and put in an aftermarket antenna.
