Adam you need to get a set of plastic pry tool. I hurts my heart to see a metal screw driver on a prestine door like this..
The thing with the centered screw, is to support when you for example pull to close the door.. It will feel flexy if screw is not in place, and may twist a bit if you pull to hard..
That screw in the door card is important strengthens the handle I forgot once and snaped my Handel of my door card
