That’s right kids this is the long awaited Nissan 2.5L timing chain replacement video. Well, part 1 anyway. In this installment we remove the old chain. That’s an easy sentence to type, but it takes almost an hour of video to cover. Just to put things in perspective, the first cut of this video was almost 5 hours long. I managed to pair it down to 1 hr 45min. That was a LOT of editing. I love the finished product though.
And yes I do realize that had I removed the rear engine mount it would have made replacing the PS rack that much easier.

NEW PARTS😎
I'm in the process of replacing the head gasket on this same car for my daughter. I figured I would go ahead and replace the timing chain since I had to remove the timing cover anyway. This video helps alot. I thought I could wiggle the timing cover of once all the bolts were removed, but I can tell you it's near impossible to remove with the engine still in the car. Nice work Eric. I would love to have access to a shop and a lift like you have. Would have made this job alot easier, but after a few busted knuckles and some not so nice words I'll get it done! Lol . By the way this is a huge job expecially if you are also doing the head gasket. Your phone is your friend on this one! Take pictures and don't forget where your bolts go. Good luck everyone and thanks again Eric!
Thanks for the pry bar tip it helped in my head gasket replacement
I have to believe that amount of oil would DEFINITELY break that engine.
Cheers bro, had to do 1 of these at work while the main mechanic is off and I'm just starting out, would of been screwed without this video, couldn't find those 2 10mm bolts on the gear box side under that wee inspection flap. Thanks again.
Im also doing timing chain replacement atm. I got the marks on timing chain perfectly lined before loosening, but balance chain doesn't hit the mark at the same time. Is it okay to line timing, take off chains, put balance on marks and assemble timing chain? Seemed that you didn't have balance on marks when you took off timing chain? Thanks and hopefully you got me clear, even thou my english isn't perfect 🙂 💪
Omg what a POS, never buying a Nissan xD. Awesome vid as always Eric.
Kinda reminds me of the time I had to replace a $2 dollar o-ring, to the oil pick-up tube, on a Silverado 4×4..
Hi, I have a question about the oil pump spacer in front of the crank gear. I saw it came off with almost no effort at all. Mine is slightly out of line and won't pass over the key on the end of the crank shaft. (I am attempting to remove the crank gear.) What would make the spacer not be exactly in line with the key, and how can I get it off? It is out of line by about 3mm, and trying turn it by hand doesn't make it line up.
woooooww!!!!! buen trabajo
Call it what u want but that fuckin chain stretch
I tell you what, i'll find a way to do the timing chain without doing all of that, that's ridiculous
You’re so calm. All the edits must be the swears. My Rogue 107k 2014 is not starting. Suspect timing belt. No codes. Good spark, spray fuel no change. I’m going to hire someone
Great "mechanic-ing!" Calm, cool, collected, methodical focused, NO strong language 😜 …very professional!
And much respect and love too all my white brothers you have done much to progress the world be proud of that but let's still work together Republican or democrat time to put that aside and be Americans together I live y'all no matter what u feel about me eventually you'll come around my brother ðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘Â
I'm a 42 year old black man and only mention my race to emphasize the point that no matter where we were born or what race we are doesn't matter.. Knowledge and facts and understanding are what's important and you possess all three… I don't know anything about you but what you teach me and by the way you talk and carry your self I can tell your a hell of a person.. Keep up the good work and thanks for blessing me with your knowledge it helps mine grow ðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘Â✌✌
fix yourself lol 1:45
The best thing you could have done to that car was take it behind the garage and tell it to look at the bunnies..
Thanks for this video. I picked up a used 2.5 and it's on a stand. I will rebuild it using your video for the timing to familiarize myself first. It will be easier because it's out of the car. But you showed me a lot
Thanks again. BTW…this is not my first rebuild. Just my first 2.5. I always spend a few minutes watching someone who's done one just to be ready for surprises.
Wow that's interesting I love this video
I don't even know why i'm watching this
After seeing this poor guy work so long and all the b.s. that you have to take off to get to the timing chain I'll never get all bolts in the right places so looks like a call to the junkyard
Thanks for the upload man, I'm doing the same thing on a 96 Altima right now.
The pirate car, lmfao. Workin on my spec v I swear that car pushes in on your knees so hard LOL. The ostrich comment killed me.
so i know this is not a 2010 rogue but do you think i would be able to replace the top chain and tensioners without pulling the motor?
This engine was designed in a Christmas party. I don't own a Nissan and after this video, I will never get one. Video and commentary excellent well done.
Guess what guys. I was told that my timing chain had jumped a tooth or so. Two mechanics recommended to put an other engine in. So I did. I found a mechanic for $400.00 plus the 2.5 engine for $200.00. My new engine runs greatly. Now I’m going in to find out if there is something wrong with my chain. I suspect not. Probably a sensor that controls the timing. I came in here because I wasn’t able to remove the front cover to see my chain assembly.
This guy is great, made it look so ease with his tools. But he almost removed the engine to get there. How ironic!
what a prick of a job , must of been designed by bankers
What is the torque spec for this cylinder head (qr20) ?
Is it advisable to change the timing chain on a motor with more than 204,000 miles? Other than a horrible clacking sound, the motor has no smoke, leaks or cracks.
Thanks my hero
