This video can show you the basics of recharging an AC system. I would urge you perform safe practices when working with AC and avoid venting refrigerant into the atmosphere. That said, with a little time and patients, you may be able to recharge your AC system yourself.

As I said in the video you need to be responsible when dealing with refrigerant, also in some locations it’s not legal for you to perform your own AC work so keep that in mind and observe your local laws.

Adding oil through the yellow hose will add air to the system, won't it?
the high and low on a residential condensing unit is just opposite, low is large, high is small, so keep that in mind!
Does the amount of refrigerant called for on the sticker include the amount of lubricant required? For example, if it calls for 21oz refrigerant and 7.75 oz PAG 46. Thanks.
Charge/vacc hose*
I'm sure you've figured out by now it's called a Charge Hose
👠very informative as usual
ERIC YOU ARE MY HERO YOU SAVED ME THIS SUMMER THANK YOU!!!!
you are a master mind eric thank you, why is that thing moving on the right side at the end of the video, creepy!
Thanks you so much and more power God bless you
You open both guards or the low side ? I saw video where you just open the low side .
how do you read the high gauge if the red knob is closed?
The atmosphere? Bro you are drinking everyone's fucking Kool-Aid I hate to break it to you there's no fucking such thing as outer space? Wait a minute mark my words I'm sorry I saw Sandra Bullock and outer space I forgot oh and also Tom Hanks I forgot he was in Apollo 13 holyshit where did I go wrong I totally must have skip that it was so real on the video how can I not believe it it's not like an rocket went straight up in the fucking air and landed in the ocean somewhere no one could see it with their own eyes? The moon landing was totally real absolutely that's why we don't go there anymore because the black-and-white cameras don't work anymore it's not like Hollywood to make anything similar but again I guess the Bible must be fake as well because God must have made an exception for us to make it to the heavens nowadays when he somehow destroyed a Tower of Babylon being built? Stairway of Heaven I don't know you are alright and the Bible is wrong anyways euro-zone hopefully it doesn't affect all the ice in Antarctica because we've all seen that with our own eyes??? If I tell you there's an island made out of butt plugs will you absolutely believe this or does Shania Twain need to make a music video with actual video proof of butt-plug Island I'm so sad to know that you believe you evolve from micro living organisms slowly evolving into chimpanzees because if you came from apes or chimps why is there still chimps and apes? So the bottom line is your Freon fucking Let It Go I personally by as many refrigerant canisters to let in the ozone layer for fun and I shoot them with my guns I tried to break a hole in the atmosphere ozone so I can see the heavens are Tom Hanks coming down in Apollo 13 goodbye much love God bless
r-134 is NOT a cfc and it does NOT destroy OZONE. It is a greenhouse gas, but no more than a cow fart or dumping a big gulp of water on the asphalt to evaporate. When cars get in wrecks those aluminum pipes break and release that refrigerant, that is why r-12 which is a cfc is no longer allowed. Motor vehicle air conditioning service is governed by section 609 of the clean air act, (42 U.S. Code § 7671h). (section 608 also covers refrigerant recovery, but exempts motor vehicle air conditioners.) If you read the text of section 609 you'll find that the technician certification and reporting requirements apply to those servicing air conditioning systems "for consideration", which means for hire, for money, for barter, etc. It means "not for free for yourself on your own personal car". New r-134 at walmart is $5. Gauges and the pump can be borrowed from autozone or oreilley for net $0. Suddenly air conditioning fixes are cheap if you just dig into the law. The 10th amendment forbids the federal government from doing most everything within a state with the exception of if its under its authority to "regulate commerce". Thus, commerce is a requisite item for them to have authority. Now a STATE can regulate your behavior in any way that doesn't violate the bill of rights or further rights encoded in that state's constitution, so check your local state laws.
Here's the text of the federal law: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/42/7671h#
Hi,do you need auto A/C tools? We have factory in China.
Cheryl good advice Eric thx
Great job
Can you drive the car to a shop with an empty system?
Great video Eric. Question… After evacuation, is it proper to air purge the yellow center hose by opening the refrigerant can valve and cracking the yellow hose fitting at the manifold until a small amount of refrigerant exits at this fitting so that any atmospheric air is purged from the line?

How to clean evaporator Toyota VIPs model 2009
Does anyone know why I might not be able to pull enough vacuum? I pulled 26 inHg and it holds, but my manual says I need to pull 29.5 inHg. I can only think of trying a different vacuum pump.
To clear out hoses when done: Shut off and remove the high side from car first. Open proper valves to allow most of the refrigerant to get sucked into the low side of car to clear out hoses as much as possible.
Curious?? Why wouldn’t you put the additional pag oil directly into the receiver drier when you installed it?
Great video Eric and a good explanation of the procedure. I love the way you plonked the vacuum pump on top of the battery 🙂
Eric, you know you can zero-in those gauges according to ambient temps BEFORE hooking anything up? 1st, disconnect all hoses from the gauge manifold. Open both valves on the manifold. this lets in the ambient air into the manifold. See that tiny clear cap on the right of each gauge face? Pop them off, using a mini screwdriver turn those mini screws until each needle is right at zero. When done, re-install those tiny caps, close valves, hookup your hoses, and you're good to go.
Another thing, when you turn the freon can upside down, you're putting in liquid, NOT gas. You want gas.
I vacuumed the system and it held vacuum, but then realized I need a new pulley so wasn't able to charge yet. It's been a few weeks. The drier was new but now do I need to replace it again?
yellow hose would be called a service hose, as a generic name. Although some guys would call it a charge hose while others would call it a vac hose and some call it an evac hose. And then people will say the hose color is irrelevant, it's the port that it's connected to, in which case you have a high/liquid port, service port, and low/gas port. And then someone like me would bring my 4 port gauges out and say I have a high/service/vac/low ports, and then I'd bring my digital gauges out and say I have a high/low port, 2 service ports, and a second high/low port, because I can use either side for high or low.
Once the system is evacuated you turn the gauges to closed. Now with the high and low valves closed how can you tell if there is still a leak?
Thx for showing me how to service my ac!!
Yeah babe! Hit the hot spot
