This video shows how to pull a computer out of an old AND a new Honda. It also shows the location of the transmission computer where applicable. If you’re looking for how to remove a computer on a Honda, this is your video.
Most times all you need is a 10mm socket or wrench. I recommend a couple of extensions as well.
If you’re not familiar with Pull-A-Part, they’re a self service salvage company in the US. They have 25 yards in 12 states. I’m not just saying this, but they’ve become my favorite place to go for salvage parts. I suggest you check them out.

I have a 2015 Honda Accord and the autozone diagnostic is reading P2101 Throttle Actuator Malfuction does anyone know the solution to this issue and where is my ECM located in my vehicle?
is this the same on the 7th generation accord? (2003+)
3rd Gen camry (1992-1996) have them right next to the hvac blower motor (right underneath the passenger glove box)
great video.. so on older cars there is 2 computers. take both… and on newer cars they are both in 1.. right?
Loving these salvage yard hacks.
next up Eric, points us to his eBay page where all those ECM's are now for sale….
What about the immobiliser system, doesnt the ECU/PCM module have to be reset before you can marry it to a other car ?
Dont know how it works with Honda/Acura, but with Opel/Vauxall/Saturn the ECU/PCM is part of the immo system
What are you doing with all the parts – resell? Thx
I would love to have a spare computer to experiment with and also in case I fried mine doing something stupid.
Its been a while but as I recall they used to bolt them inside the drivers side kick panel?
can you do a tear down on them and explain how they work for us ? 😀
So, when you take a computer from a car with an immobilizer, can you acquire the key to the car from the junkyard so that you may be able to start the vehicle? I know that getting the immobilizers in computers can be tricky if you don't have a key to go with it. A lot of people transfer the chips by soldering but I was just wondering about this.
Isn't it 98 – 02
How do you know if you have a short throw dip stick?
ECM + TCM = PCM
hey, tks for posting yr videos , can you make a video on how to troubleshoot an 8 gen. Honda civic airbag system and also how to swap a control module from another car without a crash memory, tks good job
No surprise that most of the fasteners were already removed on that CB7. The TCU in my old one failed literally the day after I bought it and almost every single one at the junk yard had already been removed. I was lucky enough to score a remanufactured one out of a car all the way in the back that had been there for a day.
Eric, could you do a how to remove parts from a wrecked car? like easily removing a damaged radiator from a bent in core support for clearance, or a rear glass removal of a trunk that is dented over the seal. these are all just random examples. OHHH and tips for determining if an engine or transmission is still salvageable even after the battery has been removed or the cats are cut out
So safety glasses is necessary for removing computer?
As far as sponsored content goes Eric, this is great and useful stuff! Thanks so much for all your work on our behalf!
Hello Eric, I follow your videos and you've been very helpful. Question I have a 99 accord ex coupe had to get the rear subframe replaced, but now my key gets stuck in the ignition after I wiggle the gear shifter it releases the key any ideas what it could be.. Thanks Tony from Chicago
Can I email you a video of what my car is doing and maybe you can help me understand what's going on or diagnose from a video? @ericthecarguy
What about civic's? Cmon now there's more civic guys than there is accord guys
I wish I could disconnect that quickly :-0 I'm always struggling with components so I won't break tabs. Thanks Eric.
Eric does some promo videos and gets some free junk computers.
Check out fi tech efi. Its a 4 barrel throttle body. They have systems ranging from 400hp -1000hp or more. Its boost friendly and they have boost control and launch control self learning. Its very affordable. Around 1000$ ready to go.
at least they were in a clean and safe location… today they put them in the dirty and hot engine compartment… next will be inside the oil pan or fuel tank
did you roll through the junkyard just taking shit out for video material or were you collecting some spare parts for common vehicles you repair to stockpile them up?
I do wish junk yards in MA were this nice. They stack cars on top of each other…. in the mud.
I live in Atlanta and visit that same Pull-A-Part location. I love going there to browse for parts.
So how much was your soul worth Eric? lol just kidding man still love your videos.
These computers are great for custom EFI projects. The cases are designed to be fully grounded or even watertight and the connectors can be rewired to avoid changing out the electrical harness.
I really like these vids when your pickin' parts a the salvage yard – real life part access and money saving. I just save a bunch of bucks pulling a 2000 Toyota Corolla computer through salvage over buying a new part. So far all is working well. More of these salvage yard vids would be greatly appreciated especially if you could demo how you assure that the parts you're pulling are in good repair – thanks – I like your stuff a lot – being a computer screen mechanic learner
