This video shows you how to change tires without damaging TPMS sensors. The information in this video came at a price as I’ve broken a few TPMS sensors while changing tires in the past. I hope this information helps you avoid the same fate so that you can save yourself the time, hassle, and expense of breaking one of these sensors while changing a tire.

been a lube tech for a couple months and i broke my first sensor the other day. now using the tire machine makes me super anxious. thanks for the advice!
top info thx ðŸ‘Â
Good info. Thanks for sharing!
well, i watch the Video and broke the tpma
Thanks Eric. I have destroyed 2 sensors in the past month at about 45 bucks each. Prior to that I never had a problem I must have been lucky. I just hit the subscribe button thanks again.
What details does a person using hand tools need to know? Should the first tire iron go into the tire just to the right of the valve stem like you did here, or should it go right on top of the valve stem? It looks to me like you start inserting the tire just under a quarter turn from the valve stem and then work away from the valve stem with a second tire iron to approximate what you did here manually with tire irons. Is that right?
Watching this video brought back great memories of my time as a tire tech…
I learned a while ago a trick to undo the sensor from the hole and let it drop down when breaking the bead and unseating the rim. I know it’s not the “proper†way of doing things but I never broke a sensor. Ever.
Of course then again, I never relied on that method all the time. Kind of a stickler to being “by the books†but working at a quick lube and tire shop, time was money so that shortcut was necessary but absolutely wrong.
I can clearly see alloy wheel having scratches while you put out tire from alloys
Stem has to be where the arm is, different locations on other machine. Great info though ✌
I just took my truck to Walmart and had new tires installed, now 3 out of 4 valve stems are leaking around the base of the valve stem. The TPMS system I have is ITM Uni-sensor, I took my truck back and they don't carry the type of valve stems to replace these. I have contacted the store manager and she is going to talk with the Tire and Lube manager and get back with me. I told the manager that I believe the store should replace my damaged TPMS system with a new one at no cost to me.
I broke my first today… sad times.
When breaking the bead on the back do you need to keep it away from the sensor ?
Hi, Eric. Great video Where do you align the red and yellow dots? With a rim with TPMS installed? Thank you so much.
Destroyed my first today. So bummed.
Ok I all the sudden crunching am sensors trying to remove a Michelin tires that won't come off the rim as easily any suggestions
Very informative thank you
edit and mark the valve i know you said 6 and 12 but is better to point in the video thanks.
A dealership installed new tires and when I picked up my car I asked them why the TPMS sensor was flashing. They told me oh no it’s fine all the tires have the right pressure it’s just cold out so that’s probably why. Now I know the sensor is not working but they will only replace it if it’s busted not died from natural causes they say. Problem is I don’t have 6 hours to drive to and from that same dealership for them to maybe replace it. How could I know if it is damaged or just died?
So when you said 12 o'clock you mean under that arm. I ask because I've seen machines that have the arm at 3 o'clock instead of 12.
Just been to Mr. Tire for tire replacement. The stupid mechanic broke the TPMS came to me and said I had to replace it with new one! Very bad day for me….
saved the tpms great, now we just need to know how not to scratch those wheels
You forgot to say don’t clamp the wheel from the inside
I work at Honda and I was dismounting a tire from a 2012 civic that haves tmps sensor and I broke the sensor lol that didnt feel good cuz a technician from the main shop had to program the tpms sensor
😂 yup Eric the reason why I watching this videos because today at Honda I broke a tmps sensor trying to dismount a tire
Maybe someone can further explain this. I cannot find any info on this. A guy at a tire shop told me that I could not run on Sumitomo Encounter tires because it was to old and wouldn't work with the tpms. This was when sumitomo encounter was under a year from launch. Is this guy full of bs? Or tpms only works with specific tires. It sounds bs to me.
Its one of those things that breaks if u forget about it if you don't keep in mind. Just broke one today unfortunately on a grand caravan, while dismounting the lower part of the tire bead.. It was quite embarrassing.
Lol I just install exactly that same tire in my Lancer today
When will you start uploadin' new vids again?
Eric how come some shops always scratch and curb my wheels when I get new tires installed.
TPMS = The pressure measure sensor ?
nice nokian quality tires you have there
I'm about to take Blizzak's off my car as well, LOVE THEM!!!
x corolla 2002 when i turn full right or left my car engine shakes & stops & sometimes it doesn't start at all, a mechanic bypassed the starter line with a relay is it okey, the no start problem is gone
I loved this video. I'm going to show it to my local tire repair shop. Seems every time I go in there, it's another broken TPMS.
YAAYYYY!!!! Something Other Than Fairmont!!! Your the man.. Always love ya Eric!
TPMS is so annoying
thanks to you too Bro
hey eric. I work at a tire shop and just so you know best place to break the bead is with the valve stem straight up and down since most ford's and some other vehicles have band sensors located directly on the other side of the valve stem where you placed it
I broke my TPM sensor without removing the tire. Yup, I hit a bump at the exact "right" point.
Cool to see a Tremec TKO trans in the background at 2:00. What project is that for? I was one of the first to stick one of those mustang TKOs in a third gen Camaro. That was a "fun" project to get a Ford trans into a Chevy, but they're tough and they last, and the trans was < $1k brand new at the time!
That's a badass tire machine
if you're working on Ford's be careful. some use banded sensors so the sensor will actually be 180 degrees from the stem.
Wooo, nice machine Eric! SOLID
