When you raise the car up to get the crank pulley off do you need to support the engine since the mount is out? I assume it will move down a bit but not enough to hurt anything on the other side?
Come on Eric. It’s so much work to get there, I see no reason not to torque the water pump fasteners. And maybe get some clean gloves when handling that belt. Love ya!
I couldn't get the belt on so I rotated the exhaust cam causing it to snap forward about 40 teeth. Now it won't stay at TDC without holding a wrench to it. How can i get it to stay put again?
How reliable is the j series? More or less reliable then 4 cyl?
That alternator is COOKED
I've watched a bunch of vids on this and this is the way I want to do it,only question I have is when you're pulling it over the teeth how much pull-tensiin to use while following it down to the lower part,I've seen other people mark the belt,is that a better way?
My issue is the cams and crank are out of sequence.Align all the marks belt won't go on..I need to find #1 TDC then go from there, but the spark plug is against the firewall and hv to rolll the enginne over to get to it im guessing..
The best timing belt replacement video I've seen. Both my honda pilot and accord are due for timing belt replacement, this instructional video provides a lot of detailed help and confidence. Thank you so much for this kind of generosity in sharing your gift and skill. You're a great teacher!
I hate that light too. I have one just like it. I use these head lamps and they have a good hat clip too. I bought 2 because you have to charge them up. They also have great flash lights too. I just got tired of having to drag a lamp and find a spot to place it so it doesn't fall. ÂÂ

Thanks so much for all of your wonderful videos Eric! I’ll be doing this on a Camry, and I found a decent video for my specific engine. But, I wanted to watch one by you since you always give such great tips and are so detailed. Thank you for that!
One general question: what do you use to clean the grease off before opening everything up? Is there a specific product you love that works best? Thanks!
The closed relation mechanistically smell because bench booly work towards a gaudy network. lopsided, tacky pencil
I have acura RL 2006 my crankshaft sensor keeps failing I wondering do I have to change the timing belt 18400 miles
17:52
Cause of this video i just did mine with only $400 for the oem kit and coolant included. Thanks you for the video ðŸÂ†ðŸÂ†ðŸÂâ€
Is the accord 2015 v 6 the same as this one?
What is J series??? My 2010 exl Odyssey u it J series?
Awesome video
my 02 has green, idk if they had already switched to blue.
Eric great job! But…the unsung hero is your camera guy. Really great clear shots that build that confidence that I can see exactly what I need too if I suspect something is not quite right. Buy that guy lunch! 😄
What year is this acura?
So I'm working on my 04 acura tl. Not even kidding I found a spark plug that was not even tightened. So much carbon built up on the coil that it was stuck in place….. can't trust people to get the job done. Now doing it myself
💥💥WARNING. Whatever you do DON'T buy a timing belt kit on Ebay, even if they claim it is OEM. I purchased a "Original Honda kit". The timing belt had the Honda name printed, on the belt. The water pump had the Honda name embossed, as part of of the mold when manufactured. Each item had Honda part labels and part numbers. It all looked real OEM. The kit included, timing belt, water pump, idler pulley, belt tentioner, serpentine belt. I personally completed the work and was very pleased with the result. Unfortunately the "OEM Timing belt" which obviously was a fake, broke off and ruined the interference engine on my '05 Honda Odyssey. This happened only after 4,000 miles after the work had been done. Needles to say, it resulted in a very costly experience to me. I can't afford the very costly repair. So I will have to junk my beloved van, which I brought brand new in 2005 and only had 94k original miles.
I wish I would have been warned about this. My intention is to save someone from becoming a victim as it happend to me.
@EricTheCarGuy The idler puller on my '07 TL was installed w/ red Loctite from the factory
Hey Eric what about if the crank was spun with the timing belt off? Would it be ok as long as the mark on the crank gets lined back up? I know you said its no big deal if the cams move, just move them back but my crank moved.
No adds. Skip to the end of tbe video then restart it.. 🤷🤪
I am a technician myself and I know how to replace these day and night AND I EVEN knew the part where the idler pulley had loctite before even getting to that part but I still enjoy your videos lol, they are very relaxing keep it upðŸ‘ÂðŸÂ¼
the timeing belt tenchener on 2001 honda accord has no hole for grnade pin any suggestions other than get new one
Wasn't paying attention and backed my milwaukee 3/8 ratchet right into the frame rail. No fun.
Thank u for the J series brother 😎ðŸ‘ÂðŸÂ¼..much appreciated and God bless
Really well done video. Thank you for the time it took to do the job and edit this. Huge help on my 250,000 mile one owner pilot.
Love the video. I'm hoping this will apply to 2012 TL-SH-AWD
Never liked the plastic cover on 2008 models on the 04 and 05 models. You can see the intake manifold cover plate. And has the Acura logo as well.
Eric, it looks like the oil pump seal is leaking a bit right under the water pump. when that really starts to leak it's a big since the oil is under pressure right there where it feeds into the block. Lot more work to fix that, but it will get worse. have to remove the headpipe and oil pan to access the seal.
My wife has a 04 Honda Pilot with 222k miles on the 3.5 V6 so I'm gonna be doing this really soon. Great video. Good to know about the seals. Hope mine aren't leaking
Definitely time for new rubber gloves. Keep them fresh man.
Hi l have 13' Accord 3.5. Miles is 30,000. When do recommend timing belt replacement ? I was told don't go beyond 10 years. Any thoughts?
Is it advisable to replace the serpentine belt tensioner as well?
Cool
Impressive
Would this be the same job on a j37a4? From a 2012 tl sh-awd
Great video and excellent that you explain the non-event of the cams slipping due to spring pressure. I’ve done this job on two Honda’s (dual and single cam) and every cam gear did that with no impact with them readjusted to the proper timing. I just did this job on an ‘05 Pilot. It was pretty much identical with minor differences on frame half of the engine mount which was also baked. The engine mount from a local store was slightly different, though shown as a model match on their online filter. It did not have the mount area on top for the bracket that holds the high pressure AC line and computer leads. No biggie, it is a very short run with plenty of places to zip tie those up. I also used an Aisin pump ordered from the online empire and it was a spot on match and fit perfectly. It was marked with “Aisin†and not “Hondaâ€Â. I suspect it is much more likely a part would be counterfeited and marked as a genuine Honda part since most people don’t know who the OEM manufacturers are so the counterfeiters wouldn’t bother using their markings.
The interior of your $200 car looks great but the engine fasteners look like they were marinated on the sea floor for a few years. Then again, maybe I’m spoiled by a car that spent all its life in bone dry Colorado. The fasteners look the same as the day it rolled off the showroom floor. Then again, the interior and paint of our car is much worse off from the high altitude UV rays.
Dude I been waiching you for yrs now thank you for all your help and time bro.
Perhaps I missed something in the video: Eric supports the engine with a 4×4 piece then removes the passenger side motor mount. After removing all three timing belt covers, he raises the car to remove the harmonic balancer. What happens to the engine when he raises the car? The engine would no longer be supported by the 4×4. Does he provide support with some kind of a jack (not shown)?
man, be real with me – am I gonna be able to do this without a lift? I've done nearly everything else i can think of to my 01 odyssey but I just hit 206k and it's overdue for this service.
Are J32s interference motors? Or non interference?
I thought it was bad to put weight on the oil pan like that
