@tehatemachine Just like a diesel/electric locomotive. Thing is the cost for that set up might be high enough that mass production isn't practical, perhaps at some point it will be however depending on what happens with fuel prices.

@bunning63 I actually think a V8 in an application like that would be a liability because of weight as well as fuel economy. I'd hate to be miles from anywhere and be out of gas. Thanks very much for the info.
