To say I enjoyed making this video would be something of an understatement, Paul Danner is a great teacher and he has some great diagnostic tools in his class that are a lot of fun to play with, watch us as we go through the process of diagnosing this Chevy pick up with a misfire, I think you’ll be surprised at what we find and how we find it.
Also check out ScannerDanners book on diagnosis, in a word it’s awesome.

Old school vs new school nice…still fascinating all the things you can learn from this 2 guys. P.s love both of them channels…ðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘Â
This video showcases a classic example of nuts and bolts low level mechanic(Eric) vs legit automotive technician (Danner).
Can definitely tell your a tech, giving paul shit, joking around but definitely knows your stuff
Two great guys
Thank you very helpful video ðŸ‘Â

Awesome!!!
Should have checked fuel trims first to point directly to the problem
The world could hold a missfire diagnostic competition, it's a kind of very, very challenging activitiy.
My fingers are bleeding…..bin snapping my fingers too make the spark plug come out like eric did and it's not working…..trying my other hand now….feeling faint from the loss of blood
am I missing something here ? we are looking for the simplest initial test, out in the field ,so we hook up our OBD2 reader which we just happen to have in the glovebox lol?
Why not just pull the HT lead remove the plug cap and check for a spark first on cyl 3 or is that too easy …
My first step with a engine that clearly wasn't running on all cylinders is to pull the HT lead caps off the distributor one by one with some electrical insulated pliers and see if I can isolate which cylinder isn't contributing …..
Wow this is the first video of ScannerDanner I ever saw years ago this is hilarious. He looked like he was 20 lmao. This wasn't even long ago.
Hold up you are Eric the car guy
I thought you’d talked to much but Eric the car guy just beats you😬
Eric is learning, lol leave him alone, school the shade tree Paul
Both these guys should have been actors, they like to talk a lot
Damn ETCG just put this guy out of a job lol ha ha
the camera is not catching up their speech
Hello everyone, I have a Honda Accord 2002 LX I4 that have a check engine light is on. I have code P0420 two weeks ago. I use the lacquer thinner put in the gas tank and the code is gone. After 9 days, my car give me the code P1399 misfiring. I came to auto shop, my mechanic cleaning EGR, cleaning intake manifold, change head gasket, change spark plug and wire, change distributor, check compression, check vacuum leak… but the check engine light is still on and my car is likely losing power, hard to speed up and shaking when it is idle or running <15 mile/hr. I realized when I pull out the spark plug wire number 3, the rpm is not changed. So my question, is there any chance that the bad Oxygen Sensor or the bad Catalytic Converter give out the code P1399? My mechanic check all the above possibility that could cause misfiring but cannot fix it. I appreciate all comments and helps. Thank you so much.
I love car men and women: )
Eric kept suggesting alternatives (probably valid) to what ScannerDanner was proposing, which really interrupted the flow of the video. It might be a good idea that he does a separate video to demonstrates his approach to the problem.
Hello my name is Skylar Gibson I've been watching your videos now for the past couple of weeks because I had an issue with a new well let's not say new but it's new to me I bought it back in October, it's a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.4 l and recently I had to have the timing belt replaced to it and I got lucky the timing belt broke while the car wasn't in motion so it saved my engine. But I wanted to comment a question and see if maybe you can help me out with this or at least give me some insight I'm fairly certain that my car now needs a tune-up because it's idling rough and I had a diagnostic done to it several months back at AutoZone and two codes popped up and they were O2 sensor codes and the mechanic shop in my area here in Alabama I took it up there to them to get them to see about getting it done for me and they are overloaded at the moment and they said for me to get it up to their shop by 8 a.m. next Tuesday but there you go is idling rough sometimes when the fluids are cold and I first started up while it's trying to warm up it'll stall once the fluids are warmed up though it won't stall but it's idling rough. I've been learning a lot from your videos and I enjoy watching them especially about the Fairmont project but there's my comment and if there's any advice you can give me I would greatly appreciate it sir thank you
If this was a flat rate shop, you’d be packin your stuff at this rate…. lol
Every one has there on way no body better euery one equaĺ

This is gonna sound depressing : I don't have any knowledgeable mechanics in my area that have half the brains you two have. Sad, I know. That's why I try to perform all my repairs myself, by watching your videos (both of you)
