Let’s face it, replacing a catalytic converter can be expensive. So if there’s a way to clean them, I’m sure you’d rather try that first before paying good money for a new one. After 2 other attempts to clean my catalytic converters I’ve decided to try sodium hydroxide this time. In my previous attempts I did not follow the recommended procedure for cleaning. In this video I make sure that I follow a procedure that will hopefully yield a result and allay any concerns about my cleaning methods. Let’s face it, catalytic converters can be expensive, very expensive. If there’s a way to clean them over replacing them, I’m sure you’d want to give that a try before you shelled out the big bucks for a new one. So in this video I show you another possible method of cleaning your catalytic converter. Remember this isn’t even worth trying if your catalytic converter is physically damaged. Also, be sure to fix the underlying problem that caused the catalytic converter not to function in the first place. If you have a misfire or an engine that burns a lot of oil, be sure and address those issues as well, if not, you’ll likely be right back where you started in short order.

Emissions standards are nonsense favored by totalitarian parasites. They know that their hosts/prey don't mind paying small amounts of taxes every time they engage in a transaction. That's how they suck the blood of the nation. More transactions = more parasitism. Why keep old cars going and have a used car market that favors the poor improving their lot when you can scrap them and have the wealthy and almost wealthy buying more new cars? It's all an enormous scam. Like the government guns pointed at Uber drivers to make them buy new cars. Fuck freedom, your central bank masters want you pumping, pumping, pumping for the man!
Sir, what about soaking it overnight a few times in jewelry cleaner? It is made for precious metals such as those in the converter.
Hey Eric, in the small engine world, on a two cycle exhaust we use a small hand torch by burning off the carbons… maybe this might work for u?
In my country , many people take it off, complaining about inspection and new converter cost,, So much for science and we see no new alternative.it is worst, I can fix a 1970 malibu chevelle, but the new model this days are , like if they are playing and been annoying to society with their computer fragile piece of plastic and thin wires stuff,, Im planning to start buying old very old cars again.
Can you fix my car for free eric?
Use a mix of wood bleach ( oxalic acid) and citric acid. I cannot remember the exact mix of the two, but heat submerged in water ( outside grill) and it’ll fix it if it’s fixable. Taken from an old popular science article
I just cleaned two of my cats on my 2005 TL using purple power. I found you have to soak a good 16 hours to get good results. Definitely worth it! Car is running a lot better with a lot more power. 209k miles
I would try soaking it in dawn soapy water for a few days.I bet that would help clean it.
I wonder if oxyclean would work. Or grape kool-aid – I like grape kool-aid!
If there is bubbles there is cleaner.
I wonder if the cat was warmed up via a oven would it help vs. cold.I agree if it did work it would a one smog thing. That would give time to save up for converters.Last but not least my old shop sold a fuel injection drip in to the vacuum system.Oh boy did some of the cars chiefted like a champ. Now with that said would help clog the converters or possibly clean them.
This was a waste of time watching. Why post a video of something that doesn't work??? 🤦ðŸÂ»â€Â♂ï¸Â
What about carb cleaner? The blower to dry?
Get a piece of rebar, poke a hole in the converter ceramic, voila! Success .
if you just need to clean away the carbon deposits why are you using chemicals that may have a effect on the metals in the converter. why dont you find something that would dissolve the carbon diposits
carbon build up inside can be soften just by soaking with tap water overnight…but best cleaning would be ultra sonic cleaner
I've run denatured alcohol through fuel systems at 1pt x3.5 gallons of high octane gas and past Ca. Smog test everytime. That stuff burns very hot but might be less volitol than the thinner. Always top off tank when test is done to dilute the chemical. Pretty sure they check the heat exchange for the advanced air quality district type of testing I've always used it on. Not really legal but… Regular unleaded gas in CA. Really mugs up fuel systems, intakes and egr systems. To the point where its an unlevel playing field.
Cleaning a cat will probably remove more catalyst metals from it and make the problem even worse. I don't think the coating is bonded very strongly to the ceramic matrix after 10 years of use. Who knows? They just dip in a slurry to coat it. Unless you make your own slurry of precious metals and re-dip it I don't think it can be repaired.
In Australia where I live there are no regular emissions tests, so I don't bother replacing cats unless they are physically damaged or clogged or melted and affect performance. Apart from that I don't care about them. I don't waste the money on them.
Would it be safe to just dip this thing in vinegar over night?

If there is an underlying reason like engine misfire for catalytic converter to go bad, will the diagnostic tool report the engine misfire issue
Ask the car wizard on YouTube
Can you burn it off!mapp gas in a twin burner used for silver solder on refrigeration?

How many catalytic converters over the age of 5 years actually work? If people are not going to change them every few years then you may as well delete them. Power will go up and so will fuel efficiency. If fuel efficiency goes up and people drive sensibly then there will be less pollution than from using a bad catalytic converter.
Whats that cut to the clouds about during the rinsing? Is that like, your taking a piss outdoors and having a look around at the nature? lol
2006 mercedes c280. all cylinders on bank 2 are showing misfires and when i pull the coil connector on them, you can tell the cylinders are dead. spark and fuel (55 psi) were tested and passed. what could be causing the whole bank to misfire?
I remember chunks blowing out every time i stepped on the pedal on the bronco….no amount of soap was going to fix that. I replaced the whole exhaust setup and it runs like a champ.
put it in a Dish Washer don't tell the wife Just sneak it in there
Should of used a pressure washer to Rinse it out better
Hi, I think that to clean the catalyst you need a high pressure pump, to add a product suitable for the catalysts. You run the product for about a couple of hours, you have to use a pump that technicians use to clean the boiler. Second method is to open the catalyst, remove the damaged parts, and restore againâš™ï¸Â🛠ï¸Â💯👋
Try muriatic acid with hydrogen peroxide but don’t leave it long
How about letting it soak in DEF..
I’ve got a little advice being a cheap bastard isn’t going to get you too far in life just buy new cats. They are not that much. If they are to much you should consider getting a better paying job
