Ah the second installment of the Tahoe engine swap, I thought it was going to be pretty straightforward, it gave every indication that it would be I was very wrong. I had hoped to finish the swap in one day but given some of the ‘little’ things that held me up like the fuel lines behind the ABS modulator, no space to put the hook between the rear of the engine and the firewall, having to take the exhaust off and the fastener that was placed behind the O2, little things that added up to kicking my butt. The cool thing was that I got to use 2 cameras for this shoot which makes this a historical event, it’s all for you my dear viewers.
Stay tuned for part 2 which should be next weeks video.

How much did you charge ?
You should took the intake out I would makeit more easy for you.Is the easy way
scissor jack from harbor freight. looks like a chinsey pos but is actually really handy to take off transmissions or that transfer case.
what do you do with your floor dry and oil rags? dispose the same way as used oil? the couple shops ive worked at in my life have just tossed it in the garbage…
All right my LS guys in the comment section I have a 2005 Silverado and I'm working on it now and in my digging I found out that I may have 07 or better LS motor in there it may be a LS3 how can I tell the difference?
You struggled bro
Eric
A trans jack could have been
Safer then a regular jack
Hooks?…Nahhh. Lift an engine & trans by the valve cover?…Noooo.
Bolt through a chain link (with thick fender washers, if desired) using the extra bolt holes in the heads.
You've got patience I've done lots of motor swaps but not newer like that the backyard is not the place for that
Eric where are you located
Good job
Great channel! Really love your early stuff like this Tahoe engine series.
Btw, great video!!
I’m a little late to the party but I am the not so proud owner of a 2016 GMC Denali 5.3, and it is entirely a turd. They can’t give the redesigned 19’s away.
You do know that there's a filter which allows you to just about stand the engine on its tail
I like this dude, makes a tuff job fun with his upbeat spirit and humor, gotta Sub this guy,…take care Eric 😎🙋
What salvage yard was that?
@EricTheCarGuy There are fuel quick-connects at the top of the engine on the drivers side that would have saved some effort and frustration – not sure anyone else mentioned. Also I've found it easier to drop the trans out the bottom that drop the front diff. just my 2c . and yeah I know this is super old video
Should have pulled intake so much easier that’s what I did
Looks like coolant oil and bearing material
Wonder how many cuss words had to be edited out when the motor was getting jammed 🤣
You man handled that transfer case! 😂
Subscribed… also just to give u some advice and not saying you didn’t already know but when I pull trans with eng I hook the chain in the exhaust studs where the downpipe connects to it. That way it distributes the weight buddy
ending had me rolling
Watching you take that transfer case down was painful…
So did you actually drop the diff?
erickthecarguy i bet it was fun taking that engine off lol ima be working on a 3.5l engine from a chrysler 300 ima get it back on the road
I'm doing one now… yeah I thought it was going to be a piece of cake too.. all I can say is OMG!! LOL … I hope it goes in easier with the motor tilting as it does…let me know what you come up with on your chain configuration…my motor is ready to come out the, but the cherry picker is not long enough. damn bumper is coming off.. lol  errrr    thanks for the conformation..
Eric
Love your videos. Can you tell me what kind of cameras that your are using to shoot your videos? I'm going to be diving into replacing a camshaft and lifter (s) on a 5.3 L , 2006, Silverado, with only 98,000 milles on it.
Thanks
Gary
eric i have a question I have a 2007 new body style silverado with 4.8 engine, now i came up on a 2002 tahoe with a 5.3 no i want to swap the engines. now my question is it an easy swap??? i really want a 5.3 in my truck
Even though Eric had a very hard time with this engine, especially without a lift, he seems much happier and way more enthusiastic than in his very recent videos. I love these "old" down to earth videos!
What engine that? LY5?
hey Eric why u didnt just unbolted the transmission and just left the transmission inside the truck and just take the torque converter bolts out
couldn't you have left the trans in and just take the engine out?
Hey Eric I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe ls rear wheel drive I have 190,000 miles on it so I want to replace the engine and trams and I saw the motor that u got u said that it's almost new my big question is we're do u get it from?
And people wounder why I growl at them when they ask me to work on fords…
sorry Eric. …thanks for the video
