Imam Hassan Sharif was shot Wednesday morning outside the Masjid Muhammad Mosque in Newark, New Jersey, according to Governor Phil Murphy
FOX 5 New York reports the shooting happened around 6 a.m. on South Orange Avenue.
Newark police said the imam was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
