On March 25, 2021, Brookhaven police officers responded to a call at Citgo coin laundry in Atlanta, Georgia, regarding an intoxicated individual causing a disturbance. Witnesses reported that a person was openly drinking beer in public, which led to the police intervention.
Upon arrival, the officer immediately spotted a female suspect drinking outside the coin laundry. Concerned about public safety and adherence to the law, the officer approached the individual and detained her for further investigation. However, the suspect vehemently denied consuming alcohol and insisted that the beer did not belong to her. Despite her claims, the officer had observed her with the beer in hand, making her denial implausible.
Realizing the need to take appropriate action, the officer proceeded to place the suspect under arrest. She was escorted to the police vehicle, where she continued to protest her innocence. However, during the transportation to the Dekalb county jail, the suspect began complaining of feeling unwell and experiencing difficulty breathing. Fearing a medical emergency, the officer promptly requested emergency medical services (EMS) to evaluate her condition.
The EMS team arrived swiftly and conducted a brief assessment of the suspect’s health. After careful examination, they determined that her condition did not require immediate medical attention and deemed her fit for incarceration. Subsequently, she was cleared by the medical professionals, allowing the transportation to proceed.
The suspect was ultimately charged with public drunkenness, in violation of the local ordinances. The officer ensured that she was safely transported to the Dekalb county jail
